Kia ora {{First Name}}, As well as the first roll-up of the season, El Presidente will give a brief overview of the upcoming season over complimentary BBQ lunch followed by a brief session on what's involved in being a club steward for public group booking bowls sessions. Then there'll be a impromptu social tournament and of course the AIC bar will be open. This is just the first of what will be many roll-up opportunities over the season because, for the first time, every Friday evening is Club Roll-up! With the Irish club open from 3pm every Friday and from 1pm on Sundays we're going to make the most of our fantastic greens. Club Nights are still held on the 1st Friday of the month with a schedule of events and opportunities to win some cash- we've even added a trivia quiz from 7.15. We're also working on the return of a popular twiligth bowls event from a few years back… And then of course there's the competitive side of the club… All of these events are open to ALL club members, Full Playing and Limited Playing. Of course there's a full schedule of Club Champ and Interclub tournaments in the calendar for our Full Playing members and you can read about- and register for these- below. We can't wait to get back on the greens, so rejoin now!

Pictured above: Jim, Morgan and Wayne competing at Royal Oak last weekend president's update Preparation for the upcoming season is well underway, and the excitement is building. I know many of us are eager to get back onto our club surface, and equally curious to see how the very green‑looking B Green plays. Early predictions suggest it will either be a dream or a mystery… but that’s bowls for you. I’d also like to extend a warm welcome to our new members who have joined over the past month. We’re thrilled to have you with us. Please join in as many club and playing days as you can — what we lack in centre titles, we more than make up for with friendly camaraderie, support, and the occasional questionable joke from the sidelines. Key Events from the Last Period Our junior bowlers have had a huge month, competing at both the Campi and Canoe tournaments with outstanding results. Wayne Wood, representing the Central Zone, placed third in this year’s Canoe — a fantastic achievement in a tough field. Jim, Lance, and Morgan also finished strongly, all landing in the top third of the tournament. Their performances continue to show how far our junior ranks have come. In the Campi, Paula stepped in for an unavailable player and delivered a brilliant result, helping her team qualify for the top eight. They went on to perform commendably in the finals series — no doubt a reflection of Paula’s efforts on day one and her rapid growth in the junior ranks. Her sparkly shoes on the green seem to be representing her bowls at the moment: bright, confident, and impossible to miss. The ABCA Cup followed the next weekend — a combined men’s and women’s event — and once again Rocky Nook represented strongly. Paula’s team came away with four wins and finished in the top six. A big thank‑you to the members who came down to watch, and to Richard for supporting the Central Zone (and subtly offering support to the Western Zone teams with Rocky Nook players in them — we see you, Richard). Winterclub wrapped up in August, with our team finishing just outside the top four. All players competed really well, challenging some of the strongest teams in our group. The stock of Rocky Nook is definitely starting to stand out among other clubs — and not just because of our colourful personalities. Upcoming Key Events Although September is a quieter month in terms of playing, there is plenty happening behind the scenes. The Board and Match Committee are working hard to ensure we’re fully prepared for the upcoming season. A couple of club events are on the horizon, and we wish all members competing the very best. I can’t wait to hear how you all go — preferably with stories that don’t involve gale‑force winds or sideways rain for once. Closing Remarks After an action‑packed August, the promise of what’s ahead for our fast‑approaching season is genuinely exciting. Good luck to those of you competing in other competitions around the city. It’s important that we get out and support other clubs — doing so helps build connections, and in turn encourages those clubs to support us when we host events. And speaking of hosting… how good is it going to be having two full greens (hopefully!) for the LDT, with entries from all around Auckland? Rocky Nook is ready to shine — and maybe even show off a few sparkly shoes of our own. Thank you all for your continued enthusiasm, support, and humour. It’s what makes this club special. bowls stewarding So we're reaching out to members who have expressed an interest at registration in volunteering their skills, services and time to the club to help with stewarding these groups and sessions. This isn't complicated or particularly arduous- or even require being an experienced bowler! It's usually under the lead of members who have stewarded a lot, and even comes with a $50 Westfield voucher of club gear to the same value for every session a member stewards- a cheap way to get your club hat, shirt or hoodie! We'll hold the first Stewarding 101 session on open day so everyone can see what's involved but basically, if have ever bowled and shown someone else the basics (short videos of which are on our website) then you'll be able to steward. We just have to have RNB club members on site when the public is bowling. The Stewarding schedule is live now and members can pop them name down for any required dates not already filled. Our Stewarding Convener will then contact everyone at the start of the season to confirm.

member coaching It's a great way to improve our enjoyment of the game with drills and practice matches and it's free to all members. No need to register, just roll up from 5.30pm- all equipment provided, including club competition bowls. And this season we're trialling split sessions with a separate coach for both novices who want to learn the core skills and more experienced bowlers looking for improvement in specific areas of the game. First session is on Monday 5th October but of course members are more than happy to share their knowledge from Opening Day…
