Ngā mihi nui to the outgoing Board members Richard Fuller and Chris Dewar for their contribution, although Richard has taken over the role of Club Coach succeeding Steve Clifton.

The Board is also holding a Future Plan Hūi on the 25th of this month to set a new 5-year strategic plan for the club and all members are welcome to attend or contribute to this. Club notice to follow next week.

president's update
It is a real privilege to come on board as President of Rocky Nook Bowling Club, and I am excited about the season ahead. We have a proud club, a strong community spirit, and a great opportunity to continue building on the excellent progress made by those who have led before me.

My aim is to help continue showcasing Rocky Nook within the Auckland bowling community and beyond, while ensuring our club remains welcoming, positive, competitive, and enjoyable for all members — whether they are seasoned campaigners, rising juniors, or those still working out which way the bias goes.

Firstly, I would like to thank Steve King and Sean Carroll for stepping into two of the hardest roles on the Board. Their continued commitment, hard work, and steady hands are greatly appreciated, and their efforts play a major part in ensuring the club runs efficiently and positively.

I would also like to warmly welcome back our ongoing Board members who have agreed to stay on and help guide the club into an even stronger position. Your voice, experience, and effort are valued, and I look forward to seeing your contributions continue to grow throughout the year. As we all know, a club does not run itself.

Key Events from the Last Period|
We had two teams entered in the 0–3 Year Cowboys Tournament at Glen Eden, with both teams competing against some of the top 0–3 year players from across Auckland. It was a fantastic opportunity for our developing players to test themselves, gain experience, and continue building confidence on the green.

The new Board has also agreed on a date for a Club Future Plan Hui, to be held on 25 July from 1:00pm to 5:30pm and facilitated by Steve Clifton. This will be an important opportunity to discuss our strategic plan for the next three to five years. I encourage all members to take part where possible, as this is a chance to help shape the future direction of our club.

It has also been pleasing to see a strong turnout from our junior players at the first two weeks of winter coaching across the Western and Central Zone. A special mention goes to Richard Fuller, who has come on board in the Central Zone to assist the coaching convenor in developing talent and helping prepare players for the Campi and Canoe tournaments. The future is looking bright — and possibly slightly more accurate than some of our draw shots.

Rocky Nook continues to enter and compete strongly in other club competitions as well. A notable mention goes to Jim and Maree, who have been winning regularly at Kohi. Their consistency has been fantastic to see, and we may need to start checking whether they have secretly installed GPS in their bowls.

Upcoming Key Events
Our Winterclub team will be competing across July and August, with 12 players stepping up to represent Rocky Nook over the three weekends.

It is great to welcome Chris back to compete in Kōtare colours, and it is especially encouraging to have three of our year zero members — Wayne, James, and Paula — stepping up to join the team. This is exactly the type of involvement and progression we want to see across the club.

Of course, it is also wonderful to have Dad’s Army back in action, with Colin, Sean, Charlie, and Jim guiding the younger troops in the trenches. Their experience, humour, and tactical wisdom will no doubt be invaluable — even if some of the stories from “back in the day” may take longer than the games themselves.

Closing Remarks
Lastly, I would like to wish good luck to all Auckland bowlers competing in the National Champion of Champion tournaments taking place over the next month.

I encourage our members to get along where possible, support our fellow bowlers, and help showcase the strong club morale and spirit that Rocky Nook is known for. These events are a great chance to support the wider bowling community and remind everyone that Rocky Nook may be small in size, but we are big in heart, pride, and occasionally post-match opinions.

Thank you all once again for your continued support, commitment, and enthusiasm. I look forward to working with the Board and our members throughout the season ahead.

auckland 1-5 year reps
Congratulations to Morgan McConnell who, as well as competing for Auckland in the North Island Octagonal in Tauranga earlier in the season, was selected as part of the Auckland 1–5 Year team (pictured above) competing at the Battle of the Bombay last weekend. This development tournament brings together a mix of established year 4–5 bowlers while also integrating newer and less experienced members of the junior programme.

The event included players from Counties, Auckland, Thames Valley, and Waikato, with Auckland coming out on top across the weekend, with only three rink points separating first and fourth place. This shows just how competitive junior bowls has become across the region — and it is exciting to see Rocky Nook players contributing to that growth.
